Design Assignments
Create one of the following assignments by each Monday, 4 PM. You may not repeat the creation of any assignments. Have fun creating!
ReBrand 'Em
The logo is an important part of a company. For this assignment, you are to choose a company and re-brand them. Take their logo and remix it, or start from scratch and make it your own piece of art. Need inspiration? Here's a cool site (http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/) that blogs about recent changes in company logos, and posts both the new and old versions. It can really highlight what subtle changes can do to a logo.
If movie posters told the truth
Improve movie posters to make them more accurately reflect the content of the film. Inspired entirely by theshiznit.co.uk
Learning By Design
Turn ideas into pictures!
Visualize a blog post, TED Talk, Class lecture or even dense text from a book- through drawing. Use the pictures to symbolically represent & concretize abstract concepts, and to make connections between ideas. Try to use words sparingly and only to reinforce your imagery.
Doodle it in your notebook, use your tablet, or scribble it on the back of a napkin. Just be sure to digitize it and then blog about the process, including citing where your inspiration came from.

Propaganda Poster
Time to let out your inner Big Brother! Create a propaganda poster. Use your photo editing software of choice and write a message to inspire or promote a belief. For example, this WW2 poster about increasing ammunition production was turned into a poster promoting tweeting.
Remixed Game Covers
Take a video game cover and remix it to change up the meaning or play with the general idea of the game. You can see more examples in this post which is in many ways the inspiration for this assignment.
True Lies
Without using lies, impugn the reputation of someone usually seen as a major hero. You can do this through statistics, quotes taken out of context, inflammatory questions etc. Easy route is a quote with a picture but it could run the gambit up to a full fledged attack ad style video. George Washington magazine style example is here.
Weird Book Room
The Abebooks Weird Book Room lists a collection of titles so farcical you would think they are made up, but they are not. "Grandma's Dead: Breaking Bad News With Baby Animals", "Beyond Leaf Raking ", and "Goats: Homeopathic Remedies" are all actual book titles -- "finest source of everything that's bizarre, odd and downright weird in books."
Your assignment is to design the cover of a book title so weird that it will look like it will fit right in to the Weird Book Room. Be sure to include a little bit of jacket blurb for your blog post where you include your designed book cover. Go weird!

On the Cover of a Magazine
Take a popular figure from film, television, politics, or education and place them on the cover of a magazine. Re-edit the text as well to blend them into the style of the magazine.
Your Big Break
You finally got your big break in the Music Industry and you are releasing your first album, and guess what you get to design it yourself. The assignment is to design a new original album cover where you are the artist, you can use any genre and theme you want just be creative and have fun with it. The back should include a creative song list.
